Putin Comments on the Plane Crash of Wagner Group’s Leader, Evgeny Prigozhin

Russian President Vladimir Putin has commented on the tragic plane crash that resulted in the death of Wagner Group’s leader, Evgeny Prigozhin.

According to Putin, Prigozhin is a talented individual who has made significant contributions to Russia’s military campaign in Ukraine. Speaking to reporters in the Kremlin on August 24th, President Putin revealed that he has known Prigozhin since the early 1990s. Putin described Prigozhin as a “complex figure” and acknowledged both his serious mistakes and achievements.

Putin referred to Prigozhin as a “talented entrepreneur” who has worked in the oil, gas, and precious metals industries in Russia and Africa. The Russian president also disclosed that Prigozhin recently returned from Africa and had meetings with several Russian officials.

Prigozhin’s name was listed among the passengers on the private Embraer plane that crashed in the Tver region on August 23rd. All seven passengers and three crew members on the flight from Moscow to St. Petersburg tragically lost their lives. Authorities are still in the process of identifying the victims, but it is believed that Prigozhin and six other members of Wagner were among them.

President Putin expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and assured them that a thorough investigation into the accident would take place.

The plane crash occurred just two months after the disbandment of Wagner Group in Russia. The dissolution was swiftly carried out after Prigozhin agreed to relocate the majority of the group to Belarus and Africa, as mediated by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.
